PITESTI, A RESPONSIBLE PRODUCTION SITE

The Renault group applies the same high standards of quality in all countries. The Group therefore places considerable emphasis on the environment and on economic and social development when it sets up new business locations in other countries. This approach is illustrated by the initiatives put in place at the Pitesti plant in Romania, a benchmark site.

Pitesti, a recognized environmental player in Romania

With the assistance of the Romanian government and the regional environmental agency for the Pitesti region, Renault and Dacia developed a plan to bring facilities at the Pitesti plant up to standard and to protect the environment. As part of this plan, €13 million have been invested in protecting natural resources. Initiatives have been set up in a number of areas including soil decontamination, wastewater and waste treatment and an ultrafiltration unit to recover the oily emulsions produced by the engine machining workshops.

Since 2003, Pitesti has cut CO2 emissions per vehicle by 78% and water and electricity consumption by 91% and 77% respectively. In compliance with the Group’s environmental requirements, the Pitesti plant gained ISO 14001 certification in 2005. This certification is helping to raise awareness on environmental issues among both manufacturers and the general public in Romania.

Economic development: Renault as a creator of value

Renault has invested more than €1 billion in the Pitesti site, giving new impetus to the regional economy.

Working with local suppliers and employees

At Pitesti, Dacia gives preference to local suppliers. For Logan, 18 Renault suppliers are Romanian firms. These suppliers are trained by the Group with a view to establishing a long-term partnership. An investment that reinforces the added value of these companies on the market.

At the same time, Renault has encouraged its Western suppliers to open business locations in Pitesti and to recruit local employees, often from Dacia.

Social policy: multi-faceted action

Local employment: the Development and Solidarity Foundation of the Pitesti-Mioveni region

Working with local players, Renault set up this foundation in Pitesti in 2001. The aim is to develop local employment, through initiatives in the areas of business creation, vocational training, mobility aids, etc. The Foundation has inspired similar initiatives elsewhere in Romania.

Training: the Automobile Academy in Bucharest

Alongside a strong training policy in the countries where Renault is present, the Group has set up the Automobile Academy in Bucharest. This entity provides high-level training to boost managerial, commercial and technical skills.
