Europcar and Renault signed for 500 electric vehicles

A Motor Show is the opportunity to meet partners and sign agreements. Thus in Geneva 2010, Europcar has signed with Renault the pre-order of its first 500 electric vehicles available for rental.

It follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed at Frankfurt motor show in September 2009.  Since 2011, Renault will supply Europcar, who will offer vehicles for short-term rent in most major European cities: Fluence Z.E. and Kangoo Z.E., followed in 2012 by the future electric vehicle based on Zoe Z.E. Concept in 2012. A "win-win" agreement, as Europcar will expand its "eco-friendly" fleet, while for Renault, "the leverage created by short-term rental will help to drive adoption of electric vehicles by individual customers" declared Uwe Hochgeschurtz, Senior Vice president, Renault’s Corporate Sales Division.

I rent from eurocar and recently asked if they had electic vehicles to rent. I am glad to hear they have taken this step.

The Kangoo ZE impresses me as an excellent approach. I hope to be able to buy a high clearance electric utility vehicle to use in a rural farming district in Italy where the roads are bad. Will a high clearance version of the Kangoo ZE become avaiable? My biggest regret: why is this vehicle not available for sale now?

Kudos to Renault for taking electric cars to market. Yes there is risk, but someone has to have the guts to be the first. Bravo!

One suggestion.Contact Mobility (the short term car agency here in Switzerland) and make a similar arrangment with them. If you succeed, I will be sure to rent one of your vehicles.
God bless you folks for getting these cars to market.

Best wishes, Sam
