LOUIS DUMAIS TESTIMONIAL

Quality concerns all Renault functions, from design to manufacturing through to sales and after-sales. Product quality assessment teams ensure that distributed vehicles function perfectly and meet customer expectations. We talked with Louis Dumais, AVES assessor (Alliance Vehicle Evaluation Standard).

French, 22 yrs old
Training: Baccalauréat in Technology with an electronics minor,
followed by a BTS as an engineering technical assistant
Current job: product quality assessor, AVES
(Alliance Vehicle Evaluation Standard)
Site: Technocentre, France (travels a lot, to the Sandouville plant, for example)

“I began my career at Renault in 2003 as part of a work-study BTS degree. My tutor suggested I get first-hand experience on the manufacturing process, so I spent a month on the production line, fitting seat belts on the Laguna and Espace. Then I worked for two years on standardizing inspections after rework (repair). My job was to produce operation sheets explaining quality control procedures for reworked vehicles. Apart from the technical knowledge linked to my position, I learnt a lot about car production. Working in a team with people older than myself made me more mature.

Renault hired me after my training period. I’ve been an AVES assessor (Alliance Vehicle Evaluation Standard) since 2005. AVES quality assessment guidelines are common to both Renault and Nissan. I assess the quality of finished vehicles by assuming the point of view of a customer. I meet with inspectors at Group plants and check that they rigorously apply quality assessment rules. I also work on cars in the development phase, alerting project teams on defects that could affect customer satisfaction.

I travel to other plants a lot, in France, Spain, Turkey, Morocco and so on. At the moment I’m working on New Laguna at the Sandouville plant. These travels have been very enriching personally. In four years at Renault I’ve acquired in-depth technical knowledge on cars. And made my hobby my job! In the long term, I’d like to work in engineering to help improve vehicle systems.”
