As part of its business activities, Renault uses technology and products that may, in some situations (such as fires, floods and handling accidents), create risks for the environment and for people (i.e. personnel and local residents). The consequences of these risks are planned for by each site as part of its environmental management system.
Renault also cleans up past pollution, both its own and that of other companies. Renault’s commitment in this area is illustrated by the examples of Boulogne and Pitesti.
Renault is also implementing a risk management policy that identifies site-specific risk in order to improve prevention.
Renault's policy includes:
- studies conducted in partnership with local public service authorities (environmental, health and social services, fire departments) and insurance companies, to reduce risk at source;
- the development of a proactive risk management strategy to limit the possible impact of risk on the industrial plant and on local residents;
- the Environmental Management System as a basic standard in the prevention of industrial risk;
- all the necessary steps to obtain the Highly Protected Risk label and ISO 14001 certification.
