The site is located in an industrial zone, 12 km from the sea and 8 km north of the centre of Bursa. The nearby River Nilüfer crosses the plain of Bursa.
The nearest homes are immediately next to the site (around 150 m to the east). The Renault Oyak plant occupies a total surface area of 5 ha, of which 25.6 ha of buildings.
Özlem SÖNMEZ, Environment Manager:
Highlights of 2009 include:
- the implementation of a manufacturing process for machining sludge bricks in the hazardous industrial waste storage area in December 2009,
- covering pipes without excavation,
- the modification of chimney construction in line with legal requirements,
- the campaign to measure atmospheric emissions in June-July 2009,
- the creation of an energy school to raise staff awareness.
Like all other factories in the Renault group, the site rolled out a plan to manage risks of fire, explosion and natural disasters.
Earthquakes are a major risk for the site. An in-depth study has been carried out to identify the necessary reinforcements with, in particular, a campaign to attach all industrial process equipment to the floor or the structure of the building.
Finally, the site was OHSAS-certified in June 2008.

Comments on environmental data
- Water consumption: site water consumption was reduced by installing a closed-circuit water cooling tower.
- Liquid effluents: while there was no increase in the concentration of pollutant parameters, the load increased owing to an increase in the flow of discharge.
- Atmospheric emissions: for greenhouse gases, the calculation scope changed to integrate scope 2.
- Waste: the reuse of P3 waxes and mastic recycling reduced the quantity of hazardous industrial waste (HIW).
- Energy: savings enabled a reduction in the site’s energy consumption.
