The Lardy technical centre is located in Essonne, about 50 km south of Paris. Spanning the municipalities of Lardy and Bouray-sur-Juine, the Lardy technical centre is nestled in natural surroundings and protects some 100 hectares of forest on the site.
The sealed area now covers 37 ha, of which 9 ha are buildings. This is unlikely to change much once the Powertrain Engineering Centre has been completed in 2009-2010.
The built area, which was previously concentrated on the south-east of the site now extends northwards. The section occupied by production buildings therefore borders a residential and communal area. The section occupied by production buildings therefore borders a residential area, with educational and retirement facilities less than 1 km away. The forested section borders a different residential area.
The last particular features include the railway line between Paris and south-western France that crosses the site, and the Mesnil-Voisin chateau, listed as a historic building, which is in the vicinity.
2008 saw the results of the continuous progress initiatives that have been deployed at the Lardy Technical Centre for a number of years.
Three initiatives deserve to be highlighted.
- Started in 2007, the €1.3 million project to replace two open air cooling towers by closed systems was completed in 2008.
The replacement of these ageing systems with latest-generation towers significantly improved the management of the risk of Legionnaire’s Disease on the site and in the surroundings.
- The systematic inclusion of the waste factor in all projects also reached its cruising speed in 2008. Not only has the scope of this project been extended, but quality has also been significantly improved through an effort to adapt to the treatment and reuse processes.
By way of example, inert waste is now extensively reused.
- 2008 also witnessed the completion of the upgrade of the entire site’s lightning protection system.
