PURCHASING

Some 2,000 people work at the Purchasing Department, 900 of them outside France. Renault purchasing totals € 25 million a year, equivalent to 60% of the Group’s revenues.

The six Purchasing professions at Renault:

Supplier Account Manager (SAM). A total of 60 people work at Renault in this demanding profession. SAMs are responsible for building and monitoring the performance of the worldwide supplier panel. They establish purchasing strategies for their component/service families, select suppliers, set and monitor objectives on quality, costs and times, and resolve crises. They have completed higher education and have solid experience in purchasing, research, engineering centers or distribution.

Regional Supplier Account Manager (RSPM). RSPMs have the same responsibilities as SAMs at a regional level. They manage a team of “function” purchasers.

Purchasing Project Manager (CPA). CPAs help set quality-cost-time objectives for vehicle and powertrain projects and are responsible for approving and monitoring the achievement of these objectives. They implement project policies, identify risks, and roll out action plans working with experts and SAMs. They also manage a team of “project” purchasers.

Purchaser. At the meeting point of the SAM and CPA professions, Purchasers are true negotiators. They manage purchasing in the upstream (project) phase, in the volume production phase, and in the services phase, ensuring the operational management of suppliers. The gateway to the Purchasing profession, this position requires technical knowledge of the product and financial expertise for negotiations.

Administrator: The purchasing project team also features a specialist entity of around 60 Administrators who are responsible for managing purchases. They use the entire range of information systems to coordinate development and series purchasing, make orders and enter price changes. Applicants are either at the start of their career and want to learn about the company’s purchasing system or are IT specialists with experience as technicians.

Supplier Development and Quality Experts: Some 100 people work with Purchasing operational staff and suppliers to improve their performances on quality and productivity. These consultants provide all of Renault’s expertise in quality, industrial processes, tooling and logistics worldwide.
