EDUCATING ALL AUDIENCES

To effectively promote road safety, Renault is seeking to raise awareness and to disseminate good practices. To increase safety for everybody, the brand encourages initiatives involving all audiences – customers, children, employees, suppliers, etc.

Committed to the safety of our customers

As a benchmark player in road safety, Renault encourages all initiatives that encourage drivers to adopt a calm and cautious approach.

The Group is investing in the safety of both private and fleet customers: a working programme has been set up to train customers and help them relearn responsible driving practices. This training is backed up by assistance in understanding and using in-car safety systems.

At the same time, the Group designs educational media and provides training for key account managers and all employees who come into contact with customers. The aim is to help customers choose the right car with equipment tailored to their requirements and to contribute to more responsible driving.

Involving employees and suppliers

Renault employees are in the front line of the Group’s road safety policy. They follow regular information and training initiatives, including road safety week and preventive driving courses.

Renault has also signed charters on road safety and occupational risks, designed to educate all personnel on the risk of accidents.

Taking action with children and young people

Traffic accidents are the main cause of death in the 10-24 age group. Every year, almost 400,000 young people under 25 are killed in road accidents around the world. Educating children and raising awareness is therefore a priority in promoting road safety.

The Safety and Mobility for All programme

Renault is building on its expertise in safety to develop the programme Safety and Mobility for All. This educational project is aimed at children and teenagers.

Launched in 2000, the programme has already reached more than 13 million young people in 27 countries. More than 540,000 teaching aids have been distributed to schools (teacher’s manuals, DVD and booklet for each child). The programme has a website and is based locally on the website of each participating country. Safety and Mobility for All is the biggest educational campaign on road safety ever conducted by a vehicle manufacturer.

10 de Conduite initiative

In France, the Group is also involved in the 10 de Conduite initiative, conducted in partnership with the police, Groupama and Total.

This initiative lets secondary school pupils test their knowledge of the highway code, take the wheel of a driving school vehicle for the first time and learn about responsible driving.

In all, 200,000 young people have taken part in this operation since 1995.

Educating senior citizens

In 2012, Renault introduced training in safe, sustainable driving for senior citizens.

This offering was developed in partnership with the group ECF (École de Conduite Française). It involves a day of interactive training, in which participants review the latest changes to the highway code and infrastructure, the new systems found on modern vehicles and the best way to use them for older drivers. The course comprises:

Classroom training:

  • Knowledge update (new signage, regulations, road risks)
  • Review of good and bad practices, solutions to be implemented in order to correct mistakes and simplify journeys
  • Recognizing the reduced capabilities caused by age and implementing appropriate solutions
  • The effects of drugs on driving
  • Presentation of driving aid systems
  • Effect of visual, auditory and cognitive deficiencies on driving.

Practical training:

  • Checking visual acuity by day and by night, sensitivity to glare
  • Checking capacity to take account of information in the blind spot
  • Measuring simple and complex reaction time
  • Learning to use driving aids.

A pilot group of around thirty drivers aged over 70 took part in this session.
