WASTE

Managing waste: a fundamental necessity

Human activity produces billions of tons of waste which, depending on their physical and chemical characteristics, can represent risks for mankind, fauna and flora.

Waste stored in uncontrolled landfills can contaminate soil and aquifers as well as creating visual pollution. At the same time, waste treatment involves transport operations that emit atmospheric pollutants and greenhouse gases.

Non-recycled waste is a waste of potential material or fuel, and it contributes to the depletion of resources.

What action can we take without endangering the environment?

  • Reduce the volume and toxicity of waste.
  • Put in place waste treatment processes that respect the environment: local recycling, energy recovery with controls on atmospheric emissions, etc.
