The Renault Sandouville plant is located in northern Normandy, in the municipality of Sandouville, specifically the industrial port zone of Le Havre. The plant has a total area of 152 ha, with buildings occupying 60 ha. Neighbouring companies include chemical and petrochemical facilities with a Seveso or high-risk classification.
Carole Deschaintre, Environmental Manager :
“Sandouville was the first plant to obtain ISO 14001 certification, in 1998. This year we are entering a new cycle of renewal, aimed at further broadening and enhancing our environmental management.
The activity downturn in 2009 was an opportunity to rhyme ‘ecology’ with ‘economy’. We rolled out actions throughout the site, including a major reduction of energy and water consumption and the economical use and recovery of certain chemicals, which also help to reduce waste volume.
The proportion of well-sorted waste is growing strongly, limiting our eco-footprint and contributing to gains in industrial ecology (some waste, when properly sorted, is used as raw material at other companies).
Lastly, after investing €60 million to change our paint base application process, we are continuing to reduce VOC emissions through continuous progress initiatives.
More than ever, everyone at the site is involved in the environment!”
