Objectives

  • Sell an additional 800,000 vehicles in 2009 compared to 2005
  • From 2008 in Europe, sell 1 million vehicles emitting less than 140g/km of CO2, of which one-third will emit less than 120g
  • Offer a line of vehicles able to run on biofuels

Opportunities

  • An unprecedented product offensive, with the launch of 26 new models between 2006 and 2009:
    - renewal of the existing product range,
    - reinforcement of the luxury offer,
    - innovation in markets where Renault is not yet present,
    - design of models specifically for export.
  • Development of international sales
    The objective is to achieve 37% of sales outside Europe by 2009, by expanding the product range and designing vehicles for specific markets.
  • Enhance R&D spending to design vehicles that are increasingly environmentally-friendly, and offer a range of alternative technologies (biofuel, electric and gas-powered vehicles).

2007 : review of progress

  • Strengthened international production capacities. Between 2005 and 2007, annual production capacity increased by around 600,000 units.
  • Consolidation of positions in fast-growing markets:
    - a partnership, announced end-2007, with a Russian automaker, AvtoVaz
    - a project to build a new factory in Chennai (India),
    - an agreement to create a production site in Tangiers (Morocco) by 2010.
  • Solid progress on the product range renewal:
    - the continuing revamp of the product line-up,
    - launch of the Group's first cross-over vehicle in South Korea (QM5) and in Europe (Koleos),
    - launch of the Sandero in South America and in Europe.
  • Environmental and affordable vehicles:
    - launch of the Renault eco2 signature,
    - 867,000 vehicles emitting less than 140g/km of CO2 sold in 2007 in Europe,
    - launch of biofuel-powered vehicles: Trafic, Master B30 and Mégane Bioethanol E85,
    - a project to launch electric vehicles in Israel in 2011.

In first-half 2008, Renault reports operating margin of 4.1% - Consolidated data.

Renault generated an operating margin of euros865 million, i.e. 4.1% of revenues, vs. 3.5% in first-half 2007 in a particularly difficult economic context.
