Joined Renault in 1971 as controller in the European export department. In 1975, he was appointed marketing director of Renault UK, then he went on to become branch manager (London in 1979 then Stockholm in 1980). He was managing director of Renault Italy in 1985 and became vice president marketing in 1989. He was appointed Senior Vice President, Market Area Europe in 1994 and became a member of the Renault Management Committee. In 1999 he took up the post as Chairman and CEO of Renault Crédit International (RCI), renamed RCI Banque in 2002.
