1966: The Romanian automotive industry takes off

Dacia, a state-owned Romanian company based in Pitesti, began manufacturing Renault 8s and Renault 12s under license in 1966.

1998: Gradual entry into the Renault group

- 1998: privatization of Dacia – Renault acquired a 51% equity stake
- Renault gradually increased its stake and held 99.3% in 2004

1999-2004: Extensive modernization

The Renault group invested 489 million euros over a five-year period to upgrade Dacia, modernizing production facilities, improving quality, training personnel, improving working conditions, renovating premises, upgrading IT equipment and installing assembly lines for Renault engines and gearboxes.

2000: The “renaissance” of Dacia with the launch of the SuperNova

SuperNova was the first car released after Dacia signed with Renault. It was replaced by the Solenza in 2003.

2004: Introduction of Logan

This vehicle, at the heart of the strategy to conquer emerging markets, was the result of close cooperation between Dacia and the engineering teams at the Technocentre. Today Logan is also a Van, a Pick-up and a MCV.

2007: Creation of Renault Technologies Romania (RTR)

This Renault engineering center is an offshoot of the Technocentre. Positioned close to the local customers, the RTR will become the engineering hub for all vehicles developed on the Logan platform.

2008: Sandero is launched

Dacia Sandero is presented during the Geneva Motor Show. This car offers an ample cabin space, a high load capacity and robust build. The brand, now present in 51 countries, reveals its new logo.
