Reduce greenhouse gas emissions
Renault Commitment 2009
By 2008, Renault will be selling 1 million cars that emit less than 140g of CO2 per kilometre, with one-third of them emitting less than 120g CO2/km.
By 2009, 50% of Renault's gasoline-fuelled vehicles for sales in Europe will be engineering to run on a blend of gasoline and ethanol.
Also by 2009, all diesel engines in the line-up will be able to run on a blend of 30% biodiesel.
In the context of the Alliance, Renault is preparing a full range of alternative technologies, such as hybrids, fuel cell batteries and electric vehicles. During the plan, Renault will be testing vehicles equipped with fuel cell batteries, based on the Alliance’s advanced technologies.
Production phase
- Cut energy consumption per vehicle by 2.5% annually between 2004 and 2007.
- By 2007, reduce carbon dioxide emissions across the European Union by 45% compared with 1998, in line with the directive on carbon dioxide quotas (boiler plants with a power rating of more than 20MW).
Vehicle-use phase
In 1998, car manufacturers made a commitment to the European Commission to reach 140g/km of CO2 on average for vehicles on the road, a 25% reduction on 1995. The classification varies in line with the breakdown of sales. sales distribution. Negotiations are under way on the next stage in the process: 130g/km of CO2 by 2012.
Renault is also keen to develop its range of vehicles running on natural gas and LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) as market opportunities arise.
