Renault, leading the field in passive safety

Renault is the acknowledged standard-setter in safety. It has the safest range of vehicles on the market – the result of long-term studies on safety. Nine Renault vehicles have obtained five stars – the highest possible score – in Euro NCAP tests. These vehicles are the: Modus, Scénic II, Mégane I, Mégane II Coupé-Cabriolet, Laguna II, Vel Satis,  Espace IV, Clio III and New Laguna.

Renault's safety policy has proved its worth. In France and in other countries, Renault's expertise is helping to reduce the number of lives lost on the roads. 

Education

With the general public         

"Safety for all"

The "Safety for all" program has already reached more than 8 million young people in 22 countries in all the world’s continents. It is the world’s biggest road safety awareness campaign by an automotive manufacturer.

To fully involve young people in road safety, the educational and fun content of the program is structured around three target groups.

• “Kids on the Road” (French only), aimed at 7 to 11 year olds, comprises a teaching kit sent free of charge to teachers and an international drawing competition

• “Express Yourself!” (French only), an ad campaign competition, encourages 12 to 15 year olds to think about responsible behavior on the road.

• To raise the awareness of young drivers, Renault has launched a series of local initiatives based on three main themes: competitions, driving courses and designated driver campaigns. Find out more about the actions in your country

Safety awareness campaigns

Renault has organized a number of safety awareness campaigns for television, which is the medium reaching the broadest public.

Publication of the "Driving Safety Forward" book

In 2004, Renault and Hachette published "Driving Safety Forward", a book reviewing the current situation and describing the outlook for road safety worldwide. Published in 120,000 copies and translated into six languages, the book has been widely circulated both inside and outside the Group.

Within the company         

Education begins inside the company. Each Group employee must become an ambassador for road safety. At Renault S.A.S., the number of lost-time accidents taking place on the journey between home and work has decreased by 32% in the space of four years. The number of days off has fallen by 37%.

Road Safety Month

Renault has been organizing this event regularly since 2002.

The objective: to familiarize employees with the safety equipment developed by Renault, so that they can better explain it to others.

As part of Road Safety Month 2005, Renault also launched an e-learning module on the Highway Code. 

Renault Drivers' Charter

With the Drivers' Charter, Renault and the employees of the Renault Group agree to respect the highest standards in safe driving by:

• preparing for each journey (checking tires, routes, attachment of luggage, etc);
• scrupulously respecting the Highway Code;
• driving responsibly (helping drivers in difficulty, stopping every two hours, etc).         

The Drivers' Charter also places an obligation on Renault in its capacity as employer. Renault agrees to:

• educate all its employees on road safety issues;
• communicate with personnel to ensure that the Highway Code is observed;
• involve managers in preventing road risks;
• service and regularly recondition company vehicles.
