Pitesti - ACI
Auto Châssis International is a car parts manufacturer specializing in the design, validation and manufacture of chassis systems and modules. The company has two plants in France (Le Mans, Villeurbanne) and one in Romania (Pitesti).
The Mioveni plant performs the following processes: stamping, machining, welding, painting (electrocoating) and assembly.
Auto Châssis International ROMANIA S.R.L. - Rue Uzinei 3A - Mioveni - ROMANIA
Situation
The site is located some 120 km north-west of Bucarest in the Arges region. It is on the industrial platform of the Dacia site, in the Suppliers' Industrial Zone (ZIF).
Initial certification earned in 2003.
The ACI plants in France, Brazil and Rumania benefit from multi-site ISO 14001 certification. This certificate authorises a management process centralised in France (ACI Le Mans) for all the "standard" tools. Operational control is performed by the ACI Pitesti site. An internal audit process guarantees homogeneity of the environmental management system.
Water consumption
The site has closed-loop cooling towers, to limit water consumption. Water consumption increased by 26% in 2007. This increase should be compared with the 40% increase in the workforce and the 66% increase in production.
On a like-for-like basis, water consumption decreased.
Water-borne effluents
The site has been using lead-free electrocoating since 2004. In addition it is equipped with a physical-chemical plant and a biological plant to treat effluents.
SO2 and greenhouse gas emissions
The site uses natural gas rather than fuel oil, to limit SO2 emissions. The 27% rise in 2007 was due to the increase in activity.
Waste
The substantial rise in HIW in 2006 is attributable to the increase in activity, and to special treatments by electrocoating.
In 2007, the 28% rise was contained, viewed against the 66% increase in activity.
The 41% increase in OIW was due to the substantial increase in activity and the variety of packaging received.
Energy
The rise in energy consumption (+24% (electricity and natural gas)) is due to the increase in activity and workforce.
Highlights
Melania Nae, Environmental Coordinator, ACI Romania:
“We carried out two priority actions in 2007:
rating existing facilities on soil pollution prevention in the three buildings used by ACI,
major investment to improve management of liquid effluents from electrocoating, before they are treated in the treatment plant.
Also in 2007, we pursued efforts on waste sorting and management of chemicals”.
