Villeurbanne - ACI
Auto Châssis International is a car parts manufacturer specializing in the design, validation and manufacture of chassis systems and modules. The company has two plants in France (Le Mans, Villeurbanne) and one in Romania (Pitesti).
The Villeurbanne plant performs the following processes: machining and assembly. The plant supplies assembled rotating parts and hub carriers to various carmakers.
ACI Villeurbanne - 10, rue du Pérou - BP 2071 - 69603 Villeurbanne Cedex - FRANCE
Situation
The ACI Villeurbanne site is located in the conurbation of Lyon; in the municipality of Villeurbanne. The nearest homes are on the edge of the grounds, around the entire perimeter.
Initial ISO 14001 certification obtained in 2001.
The ACI sites in France, Brazil and Romania share a single ISO 14001 certification.
Water consumption
The site has reduced water consumption from the water table by 49% since 2002:
by installing meters to control and monitor fluid and detergent baths;
by educating employees on the need to reduce their consumption of sanitary water;
by regularly monitoring consumption, and taking immediate action in the event of excessive use;
by looking for and repairing any leaks.
Water-borne effluents
A measurement of liquid discharge is taken every year. Ensuring machining swarf is stored properly and monitoring areas at risk have made it possible to control accidental spillage.
SO2 and greenhouse gas emissions
In 2000, the plant switched from fuel-oil to natural gas for its energy needs. This explains the negligible SO2 emissions.
Waste
Since 1998, OIW and HIW tonnage have dropped 69% and 89% respectively. Other than a drop in activity, the decrease in waste tonnage is linked:
to organized waste sorting during manufacturing,
to recycling after evaporation and condensation of washing machine water and machining fluids for HIW.
Energy
The implementation of a special organization for maintaining washing machines, as well as the stoppage of some activities that consumed high amounts of energy have allowed for an energy reduction on the site of about 30% since 2000.
Highlights
Christian Pluvy, Environmental Manager:
"Because the Villeurbanne site is located in a suburban area, the impact on the neighbourhood must be carefully controlled. That means listening to local residents, taking their expectations into account, and implementing relevant actions. This policy has made it possible to develop a constructive climate.
Another concern is prevention of soil pollution. In 2007, we performed the regular soils tests. The priority actions for 2008 to prevent pollution risk are to seal the outdoor storage basins with resin."
