Situation

The site is located north-east of Évreux (roughly 100 km from Paris) overlapping the municipalities of Aubevoye, Venables, Vieux-Villez, Villers-sur-le-Roule, and Sainte-Barbe-sur-Gaillon. Covering an area of 600 ha, it is set in a rural area where the closest homes are on the edge of the grounds.  The site blends perfectly into the surrounding landscape, and manages this natural heritage in order to preserve the neighbouring forests and natural spaces, and the complete management risk disturbance.

Iso 14001 certification earned in 2000.

The site renewed its certification in 2003 and 2006.

Water consumption

The increase in water consumption at Aubevoye since 1998 can be explained by:

  • the increase in the number of people working on the site,
  • installation of a wet track,
  • the increase in vehicle testing activity.
  • the start-up of an anti-corrosion activity.

Water-borne effluents

Discharges into the site’s water mainly consist of black wastewater almost all of which is treated in the Aubevoye municipal treatment plant.

SO2 and greenhouse gas emissions

The site’s energy needs are met by gas and electricity. The associated SO2 emissions are therefore low. Variations in Greenhouse Gas emissions (GHG) can be attributed to variations in the vehicle test drive activity.

Top

Waste

The increase in waste since 1998 is due to an expanded workforce and the installation of a platform for pollution control and processing of end-of-life test vehicles. The fluctuations since 2001 correspond to the number of test vehicles processed.

Top

Energy

The increase in energy consumption corresponds to an increase in activity on the site.

Highlights

New activities have been started up since 2006, concerning anti-corrosion, electromagnetic protection and the approval of fuel systems. Major improvements have been made to existing technical installations, such as the tyre benches and climatic wind tunnels.

  • Management

Since 1992 and the extension of the plant, 60 ha of the site has been replanted with trees. Trees have also been planted within the département (in the municipality of La Neuve Lyre). This reforesting involved about 150,000 trees, with the emphasis on regional species (beech, ash, oak, chestnut, and hornbeam).

This action contributed to maintaining the ecological balance despite the extension of the Technical Centre’s industrial activity. The natural forest heritage of the site (330 ha) is managed in collaboration with the Evreux forestry cooperative that benefits from the PEFC label (Pan European Forest Certification), guaranteeing sustainable forest management.

  • Liquid discharge

Since 2003, almost all wastewater from the site has been treated at the Aubevoye municipal treatment plant.

  • Atmospheric emissions

The site has implemented a method for retrieving volatile organic compounds given off during fuel unloading and distribution operations in its two service stations.
