Volatile organic compounds emissions from paint process

Actions to reduce VOCs are implemented in coordination with the progress achieved in other Renault bodywork assembly plants.  The Somaca plant’s participation in "business line clubs" will contribute to reducing emissions.

Waste

Completely secure waste management complying with European standards was introduced at the start of 2007. A partnership with a waste management company will make it possible to set up the appropriate processes and concrete actions to reduce waste and sort it at source.

Dojos and training workshops helped train and raise awareness of all plant staff and the main service providers.

Energy

The action plans deployed and the work of the energy committee resulted in energy savings per vehicle of around 15% in 2006 and 22% in 2007.

The plant took advantage of Morocco’s climate to use solar water heating to produce domestic hot water.

Highlights

In 2007, the Environmental Management System (EMS) was implemented at Somaca. This enabled the site to earn ISO 14001 certification. To do so, all the actors in the EMS mobilized the entire workforce around eight targets approved by the management review.

On World Environment Day, an environmental convention was organized.  A special edition of the Environment Folder in the Somaca internal newsletter was distributed to staff.

An ambitious environmental progress plan combined with substantial investment was launched in 2006.
