Situation

The Alpine site is located in the Seine Maritime region, less than 200 km west of Paris. It is close to the town of Dieppe, in the Breaute industrial zone.  The plant is 2.5 km from the English Channel and 400 m from the Arques coastal river into which the site discharges its stormwater through the municipal system. The plant is located above a water table (at a depth of 12 metres), outside the boundaries of the drinking-water catchment areas.

First Iso 14001 certification earned in 1999.

The site renewed its certification for three years in 2002 and 2005.

Water consumption

Water consumption per vehicle manufactured was reduced from 1.1 m3 in 1999 to 0.57 m3 in 2007. The volume of drinking water in 2007 was 28% lower than in 2005.

In the space of ten years, the plant has reduced its water consumption by 70%.

Water-borne effluents

In October 2000, the site introduced regular monitoring of the effluent discharged from the plant outlet.

SO2 and greenhouse gas emissions

Atmospheric emissions in 2007 were 8% lower than in 2006.

The use of natural gas as the main source of energy since 1988 has cut sulphur dioxide emissions.

Volatile organic compounds emissions from paint process

The reduction in VOC emissions can be attributed to efforts made at every stage of the body paint application process.

In 2005, paint booths were upgraded so water-based technologies could be phased in. The gradual utilisation of water-based paints enabled the site to reduce VOC emissions by 20% in 2006 compared with 2005.

Waste

Changes in waste tonnage are related to fluctuations in plant activity.

Energy

The plant introduced an energy-saving plan and energy consumption was reduced by 11% between 2006 and 2007.

The savings actions implemented were:

  • Installation of a dimming controller,
  • Less ventilation after working hours,
  • Reduced air leakage and optimized lighting.

Highlights

In 2007, Alpine Renault Dieppe embarked on a major energy-saving drive, which reduced consumption by 11%.  During our Open Day, more than 7,000 visitors toured the site’s environmental projects, particularly the water-based painting facilities and the waste-sorting dojo.
