Workforce

To maintain levels of employment, the Douai plant has sought to put in place ambitious flexibility agreements in order to manage plant shutdowns while maintaining workforce levels.

The site has also industrialized the secondment process.  Following the downturn in activity as Scénic reaches the end of its market career, more than 500 people have been assigned to other sites, mainly in the same region.

Training hours

The "Corporate culture" course was deployed for employees with between five and six years of seniority.  This course reflects local problems of personnel commitment, highlighted by the findings of a survey conducted by a specialist international institute across the Group.

Occupational accidents

The main events of the year included ergonomic studies to support a new vehicle project. Organized at a very early phase of the production stage, this study will improve conditions at the workstation.

Also, domestic risks and risks relating to the journey between home and work have been integrated in all on-site safety training courses. At the same time, stringent monitoring of the subcontractors (outside firms) involved in 200 work programs during the August closure, has significantly reduced the number of accidents.

Highlights

Initiatives to promote employees' fundamental rights

  • Promoting health

The medical centre put in place a plan to help employees stop smoking. Functioning on a voluntary basis, the plan provides support for employees who wish to give up tobacco. The timing of this plan, which is linked to the ban on smoking on site premises, has motivated more than 170 employees to take part.

  • Promoting employment

With the adjustment of levels of activity at the plant, Renault s.a.s Douai has deployed a plan to assign personnel to other sites on a voluntary basis.  As a result, the site has been able to manage overstaffing while maintaining employment levels. At end-2007, 542 employees from the Douai plant were working at other sites. A full 360 of them now work at the Maubeuge plant. As a result, they can return home to their families every day, while working at another site.
