Situation

The site is 40 km south-west of Seoul. It is located in the town of Yongin in the province of Gyeonggi. It lies close to the town of Suwon and near the Singal lake, which has a surface area of  250,000 m2. The site has a surface area of 124,297 m2 and a built area of 32,960 m2 . At the moment, the site is surrounded by fields, but a project to build an urban area is underway.

Initial ISO 14001 certification obtained in 2003.

The Site renewed its certification in 2006.

The site entered the Renault group's reporting scope in 2005.

Water consumption

Water consumption decreased by 5% in 2007. The domestic water consumption per person decreased by 13% over 2006 in spite of the problems because RSTC has used a recycling water since 2002.

Water-borne effluents

In case of sewage water, the most of parameter increased significantly compared to 2006 due to increase of the quantity which it has been steadily increasing with increase of residential personnel. RSTC has been operating an submerged type membrane aeration system into biological treatment in 2001 which is satisfied reinforced internal criteria and regulation.

SO2 and greenhouse gas emissions

GHG decreased by 3% in 2007. GHG is divided into energy and test bench. For energy, L.N.G is used for heating boiler and diesel oil for power generator.  Fuel oil is used for the motor test bench and geared boxes test bench.

Volatile organic compounds emissions from paint process

Paint is only used for proto type parts and model vehicle. The site produces an insignificant amount of VOCs.

Waste

In 2007, residence and building renovation construction producing OIW and Inert waste contributed to the increase of 73% in total quantity from 2006 to 2007. SIW, including wastewater disposed by consignment company, increased by 32% in 2007 compared to 2006 due to increase of laboratory waste water.

Energy

The main energy sources in Giheung are electricity and L.N.G. Giheung site increased the staff and test facilities. Due to this increase in 2007, electricity consumption increased up by 6% over 2006. But gas consumption decreased 4% over last year. Total energy increased 3% over 2006.

RSTC published the environmental declaration 2006 to communicate the site’s statement and performance to interested external and internal parties."
