STA is continuing prevention initiatives in safety, working conditions and ergonomics by organizing safety Plan, Do, Check, Act (PDCA) in every Basic Work Team (BWT) – manufacturing, support services, etc. The company also runs action on road safety to reduce the number of road accidents.

Initiative & Creativity

Every year STA holds a suggestions meeting to reward the best Practical Suggestions for Improvement from the past year. In 2007 a suggestions challenge was held to improve operational efficiency. A total 2,780 suggestions were submitted during the challenge.

Initiatives to promote employees' fundamental rights

  • Promoting health

The site is continuing its anti-smoking program and handing out factsheets on nutrition in partnership with the company’s private health insurer.

  • Creating jobs

Nine apprentices studying towards a qualification were hired (6 studying for the technical school certificate, 2 for the baccalaureate and 1 for the post-secondary vocational training certificate), as well as 12 operators, 6 technicians and 4 executives on permanent contracts. The company joined a coalition of employers to reduce precarious employment.

  • Respecting working hours and right to paid holidays

- The company ensures that employees take four weeks of annual paid leave.

- The site applies the Agreement on Reorganization of Worktime, which allows leave to be granted to comply with an average 35-hour working week over the year.
