Valladolid Engines - RESA
The Valladolid Engine plant is specialized in engine production. It produces 5,500 petrol and diesel engines/day along with a range of powertrain parts including cylinder heads, crankcases and conrods.
The site holds the record for production with 1,173,831 engines produced in 2007, an increase of 7.4% on 2006. Valladolid produces new engines for new vehicles, such as Laguna III and Twingo II, and for export to Group and Alliance plants (Mexico, India, Iran, etc.).

Workforce
The plant has focused primarily on bringing down the age of the workforce and on coping with an upturn in activity.
To meet these commitments, almost 250 young people have been recruited and more than 130 older workers gradually prepared for retirement.
Agreements have also been signed with the regional authorities to work together on recruiting and selecting candidates.
Training hours
A total 113% of the training plan was completed. It concerned all categories of personnel. Some 262 cascade facilitators made a significant contribution to this success.
A few examples of training actions:
A leadership and skills seminar for all managers
Start-up of dexterity schools
Training in the Renault Production Way to standardize operations more effectively and thus to enhance quality.
Occupational accidents
A number of technical measures were taken in 2007 to improve safety:
Improvement of the smoke extraction system
Improvement of the heating system
Installation of resources to ensure the safety of maintenance operations at a height
Improvements in the ergonomics of engine assembly workstations.
Improvement of fire-fighting resources: 1,500 hours of training were provided in this area.
Initiative & Creativity
The Renault group awarded the site a special prize for a suggestion put forward by an employee. The problem was to change the seal on the return ramp of a particular engine. The employee developed a clever tool that simply decapsulates the part without taking out either the injectors or injection pipes. This idea shaves 30 minutes off each operation and saves €13,000 for every 1,000 engines.
