Reducing fuel consumption is imperative given the impending scarcity of natural resources and the need to cut down emissions of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide (CO2). Renault’s engineers have been mobilized to deal with this crucial issue.

Reduction in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions

Renault’s efforts to bring down emissions of CO2, the main greenhouse gas, include reductions in fuel consumption (through lightweight vehicle design, improved engine efficiency, etc.) and clean technologies (including biofuels and alternatives to the internal combustion engine).

Aerodynamics

Advanced studies into vehicle aerodynamics seek to decrease the vehicle drag coefficient, thus reducing fuel consumption by minimizing the amount of engine power expended on overcoming air resistance.

Lightweight vehicle design

As lighter cars consume less fuel, Renault is a prime exponent of lightweight vehicle design.

Engine control

Sophisticated electronic engine controllers optimize engine efficiency to minimize fuel consumption and emission of greenhouse gases.

Camshaft angle variator

The camshaft angle variator contributes to optimizing engine operation, for lower fuel consumption and emission levels.

Friction reduction

Reducing sources of friction, is another way of increasing vehicle efficiency and lowering emission levels.
