Vehicle pollution has dropped substantially as a result of wide-reaching efforts across the automotive industry since the 1970s. Unrelenting attention to air quality, through sustained work on pollution reduction, is a major priority for Renault.

Lower emission levels for better air quality

Thanks to the automotive industry's research efforts, pollutant gas emissions from vehicles are halved every five years.

EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation)

Renault developed its EGR system to cut down the production of nitrogen oxides (NOx) during the fuel combustion process.

Particulate filter

The minute carbon particulates in exhaust gas are trapped in the microporous structure of the particulate filter.

Multi-point diesel injection

To reduce pollutant emissions and engine noise, diesel fuel is injected into the combustion chamber in several successive squirts instead of all at once.

Catalytic converter

By fitting its gasoline cars with catalytic converters, Renault achieves close to a 99% reduction in the concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) and nitrogen oxides (NOx) in exhaust fumes.

Air quality in the passenger compartment

For the best possible passenger comfort, Renault pays great attention to the quality of the air in the passenger compartment, by using quality materials, air filtration, etc.

Oxygen probe

The oxygen probe measures the oxygen concentration in the exhaust fumes to optimize operation of the catalytic converter.
