Particulate filter with exhaust-mounted injector
Renault has developed a particulate filter with an exhaust-mounted injector. Around thirty patents have been filed for this innovative technology.
The result is clean, economical engines that respect the environment.
A new process
Q: What's special about this new particle filter?
A: The positioning on the exhaust line of an injector that is completely independent of the normal engine injection cycle and dedicated solely to filter regeneration.
How it works :
when a sufficient quantity of soot is detected in the filter, a tiny quantity of fuel is injected into the exhaust gases to raise their temperature to more than 570°C,
the particle filter, placed immediately downstream, uses this additional heat to begin the process of destroying the stored particles.
A filter that regenerates in all driving conditions in complete transparency
Advantage: unlike other solutions available on the market, the regeneration process no longer depends on vehicle speed, engine speed or journey length.
It works :
even when the vehicle is stationery or the engine is idling, in traffic jams or in the city, for example;
on a fully transparent basis in terms of consumption;
with unchanged acoustics: regeneration is a silent process;
with no changes to oil change intervals;
with no particular maintenance: the service life of the filter is equal to that of the car!
