CO2 emissions
Renault controls the CO2 emissions of its vehicles to improve their environmental performance and contribute to ecological protection. In 2006, the Group is making forthright commitments to go even further.
Current overview of CO2 emissions
According to a 2005 study made by the French Agency for Environment and Agency Management (ADEME) on vehicle CO2 emissions:
Average CO2 emissions for vehicles sold in France were 154 g/km in 2004,
Only 10% of vehicles on the market emitted less than 140 g/km (and 3% less than 120 g/km),
Renault scored the best CO2 results in terms of vehicles sold, with an average 145 g/km*

Renault’s commitment
The Renault range is one of the most efficient worldwide in terms of fuel consumption and CO2 emissions:
Presented by Carlos Ghosn in 2006, Renault Commitment 2009 set forth the Group’s ambitions:
Improve environmental performance by selling from 2008 1 million vehicles emitting less than 140 g CO2/km, of which a third less than 120 g/km,
By 2009, 50% of all Renault’s petrol vehicles sold in Europe should be able to run on a petrol/ethanol mix,
Upgrade range so that by 2009 all diesel engines can run on 30% biodiesel (or “Diester”), a fuel obtained from animal or vegetable oil.
As part of the Alliance, Renault is also preparing a broad range of alternative technology, such as hybrids, fuel cells, and electric vehicles.
Throughout Commitment 2009, Renault will be testing fuel-cell vehicles in France, using advanced technologies from the Alliance.
